If we look at the glyph (♌), we see a circle and a line, a head and a tail; mindfulness and libido/attachment. This glyph summarizes the human challenge of taming the beast/impulses.  The circle is luna/Venus, the head, where mindfulness grows. So life's goal of mindfulness comes through the moon.  The tail, or libido, is also Luna. It carries the karmic, instinctual side of our challenges. Another way of seeing it is as the umbilical cord, attachment to our negative karma, or, "Dark Mother." This is why the moon has an association with evil.  So we see, the sign Leo is actually esoterically a lunar energy. The sun speaks to our dark drives and instincts.
